“What Matters to Me and Why” is a UCI speaker series that shares personal journeys, values, and motivations to strengthen community bonds.

Kelli Sharp is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Dance in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She also serves as Vice Chair for Research in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the UCI School of Medicine and Director of the Center for Medical Humanities.

Sharp’s work sits at the intersection of dance science, clinical neuroscience, and rehabilitation. Her lab takes a multidisciplinary approach – applying principles from biomechanics, motor learning, and neural plasticity to enhance injury prevention and performance, while also using dance as a therapeutic tool for individuals with neurological disorders. Her background in physical therapy, basic science, and clinical research positions her to bridge the arts and sciences in ways that benefit both dancers and broader populations.

Outside the lab, Sharp enjoys skiing and hiking in the Eastern Sierras, her pets, and time with friends and family.
