Earthrise Climate Action Festival and Symposium
11:00 am-8:00 pm
Harbor Christian Church

2401 Irvine Ave, Newport Beach

Savor the beauty of the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Preserve while experiencing the power of science, art and faith to heal our world. Meet a beekeeper, compose typewriter poetry, make sun prints, cook with cacti, plant native seeds, walk the shores of the Back Bay, and attend a performance of scenes from Beauty and the Beast. Experience the humanities in action through story-telling, interfaith exchange, and community ecology. The gathering will feature presentations by members from Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Jain, Sikh, and Indigenous communities as well as local artists and land conservancies.

11:00 AM to 4:30 PM: Join us for workshops, nature walks, demonstrations, cooking classes, performances, and more.

5:00 pm to 8:00 PM: Meet authors Christena Cleveland and Victor Villaseñor and learn about their transformative approaches to community healing, faith, and belonging. The evening panel includes a free taco reception.

This event is sponsored by the Wildland-Urban Interface Climate Action Network (WUICAN, pronounced “we can”), a consortium of community-based organizations, California Native American Tribes, land managers and universities in Southern California working together to address the climate crisis. The UC Irvine School of Humanities, the UC Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI), and the UC Irvine Program in Religious Studies are proud participants in WUICAN and co-organizers of EarthRise.
