Connecting the Roots
Grammy-winning fiddler Eileen Ivers and Universal Roots unite Celtic soul and American spirit in a vibrant St. Patrick's Day concert.
In this evening’s program, Eileen Ivers celebrates connecting the roots of Irish music, its influence on Americana music, and the growth of Bluegrass, Appalachian, Quebecois, Cajun music from Celtic influence. Charity from the Choctaws, repurposed slave ships, icy Canadian islands, Appalachian hollers, railway camps in the desert …these are all scenes of Irish experience, a trail of tales left by millions of travelers fleeing famine and seeking hope …all part of the story of the Irish immigrant’s impact on America and America’s impact on the Irish immigrant, told through music, story, and recitation.
"No one puts forth Irish music with more passion, virtuosity, and care than Eileen Ivers and her superb band. Her latest project powerfully attests to the influence of traditional Irish music in America. Ivers is a national treasure." George Holt, National Council f/t Traditional Arts - Chairman, Board of Directors, and North Carolina Museum of Art - Director of Performing Arts
