Details

Register to take your in person language placement/exemption exam. 

Placement exams are designed to assess your current knowledge of the subject and place you into the proper course level that is most suitable for you. 

Exemption exams allow students to complete their language requirement(s) by assessing their language proficiency. 

Exams offered:
Arabic
French
Japanese 
Korean 
Persian 
Spanish Learners (Test A)
Spanish Heritage (Test B) 
Vietnamese 

Except for French, all exams listed above serve as both a placement AND exemption test. 

Exams NOT offered:
Armenian 
Russian 

Students who are interested in taking an Armenian and/or Russian placement/exemption exam must schedule an appointment for this in-person exam. Please email testcenter@uci.edu. 


REGISTRATION AND TESTING INFORMATION: 
  • You MUST select your exam option to complete your registration. Failure to confirm which exam will result in your registration being cancelled. 
  • Exam length varies by language. Please visit our website for additional information about your specific exam. 
  • Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and will close two days before the test date. 
  • Students may take up to 2 exams per day. Retakes are NOT permitted and you may only take one exam once. If you take one Spanish exam version, you may not take the other.
