We are seeking nominations for CLSA members to serve as board members starting this Fall Quarter, 2024. We invite you to nominate yourself or a colleague!
As a board member you will play a significant role in advancing CLSA's mission. The time commitment varies, with an average of 4 hours per month.
Please submit your nomination via this Google form. Nominations will be accepted by Friday, May 31, 2024. CLSA members will then vote and elect the new CLSA Board members. Please email clsauci@gmail.com with any questions you may have.
Openings
Co-Chair: The co-chair shall be the chief executive officer of the Association and shall supervise and control the affairs of the Association, including serving as advocates on issues that impact the Chicano/ Latino community at UC Irvine. They shall perform all duties incident to the office and such other duties as provided in these Bylaws or as may be prescribed from time to time by the Board of Directors and by the general body. Co-Chairs will collaborate with the newly elected Board of Directors to host a variety of social and professional development events relevant to our members, and foster community among Latinx staff, faculty, and graduate students. Additionally, co-chairs are responsible for coordinating and facilitating monthly Board meetings, leading annual CLSA elections, and attending quarterly Diversity Affinity Groups meetings organized by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity.
Secretary: The secretary shall keep minutes of all general meetings and of the Board of Directors’ meetings; be the custodian of the Association records; give all notices as required by law or by these Bylaws; and generally, perform all duties incident to the office of Secretary and such other duties as may be required by the law or by these Bylaws or as assigned by the Co-Chairs.
Treasurer: The treasurer shall have charge and custody of all funds of the Association; deposit such funds as required by the Board of Directors; keep and maintain adequate and correct amounts of the Association’s funds and business to the Directors and to the general body as required by the Board of Directors or general body; and in general perform all duties incident to the office of treasurer and such other duties as may be required by law or by these Bylaws or as assigned by the co-chairs.
Mentorship Program Co-Chair: The Mentorship Program Co-Chair shall coordinate the CLSA mentorship program for first year freshmen and transfers; match mentors and mentees based on common interest/backgrounds; create, plan, and facilitate mentor/mentee mixer and end of year celebration; provide email communication to mentees and mentors for opportunities regarding Chican@/Latin@ events on campus; and ask as troubleshooter/mediator between mentors and mentees.
Professional Development Chair: The Professional Development Chair in collaboration with all executive board members is responsible for coordinating and planning events for CLSA Members that focus on career/professional development. This includes reaching out to UCI staff leadership for guest speaking opportunities, planning networking events, and working with the CLSA board for future events.
Communications and Media Chair: The Communications and Media Chair is responsible for welcoming new CLSA Members; send a welcome email with our mission and introduction of CLSA E-board. Offer to meet with new members for coffee, tea or lunch to officially welcome members or answer questions they may have about CLSA. Manage/ update the CLSA website and social media pages and share links with new members. Add new members to the CLSA listserv.
Recruitment Chair: The Recruitment Chair shall focus on recruiting new CLSA members by connecting with various campus departments and organizations. The recruitment chair will work closely with the executive board to find innovative ways of increasing the number of members in the CLSA organization. This may include but is not limited to; attending CLSA events, representing the organization at campus activities, and working with the executive board for innovative ways to drive membership.
