Mission
Ballet Folklorico de UC Irvine is a student run organization that welcomes students, alumni, and community members to participate and learn about a variety of different Mexican histories and traditions through dance and music. As a multicultural organization, we strive to promote and educate others on Mexican histories and cultures, while also engaging and interacting with the diversity surrounding us on the UC Irvine campus and the community. BFDUCI aims to create an inclusive and non judgemental community for all students of any race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, color, disability, national origin, age, or marital status. We plan to cultivate an environment so that members feel comfortable with freely expressing who they are, whether it be through dance & music or other creative means.

Mission
Department of Environmental and Occupational Health
The mission of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (DEOH) in the Program in Public Health (PPH) is to conduct interdisciplinary research and teaching across the fields of exposure science, toxicology, risk assessment, epidemiology, urban health, climate change, natural disasters, environmental health disparity, and related disciplines, to elucidate how environmental exposures in home, community, and occupational settings influence human health and the development and progression of human disease, with the aim of preventing human illness and disability and promoting well-being. In pursuit of this mission, the DEOH will focus on integrative and transdisciplinary health research using the three pillars of science: basic, clinical, and population science. Research with particular emphases on assessing exposures to and health risks from environmental and occupational factors include, but are not limited to contaminants in ambient air, water, food, and soil; green space and the built environment; radiation; noise; temperature; work organization; and community and workplace stressors.

Department of Health, Society, and Behavior
Our department is comprised of a dynamic array of faculty with diverse backgrounds in public health and related fields in the social and biological sciences. Our faculty primarily has expertise in the areas of health behavior, social determinants of health, social epidemiology, health disparities and health equity, community-based research, biobehavioral health, and health communication. Our core values include investigating the etiology of health behavior related processes and outcomes, the dynamics of marginalized populations, community-based research and practice, the creation of theoretically-informed health interventions and their respective evaluation studies, health communication, and biobehavioral health. The research, teaching, and practice interests of our faculty primarily address the explication of complex pathways linking social, cultural, and biological factors with health, with an emphasis on social determinants of health, social epidemiology, social disparities in health and health equity. We are poised to address complex health issues at the local, global, regional, and national levels given the multidisciplinary research and practice expertise of our faculty.

Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention
The mission of the Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention (DPHDP) is to create, integrate, and translate population-based knowledge into preventive strategies to reduce the societal burden of human disease and disability through excellence in interdisciplinary research, education, and public service. The DPHDP was established in 2008 as the first department within the PPH to provide a formal academic structure for the multidisciplinary pursuit of a public health mission and administration of degree programs. This forward-thinking strategy promoted excellence in cross-disciplinary research and practice, expansion of degree programs, and growth of the public health student population. In 2020 the DPHDP reached a critical size and junction whereby faculty could branch out to populate complementary new departments with more disciplinary focus. The DPHDP looks forward to continued growth within the future School of Population and Public Health.

Mission
The Disability and Neurodiversity Alliance Plus is a support and advocacy group of undergraduate students at UC Irvine. We are led by students with disabilities including people who identify as d/Deaf, autistic, and allies of people with disabilities, represented by the “Plus” in our name. We aim to make our club a safe space to destigmatize disability identity and create opportunities for self-advocacy and mutual aid. DNA+ will further raise awareness of accessibility while also creating a campus culture supportive of students with disabilities.

The UCI Disability Cultural Center (DCC) serves as a central hub for students and other members of the UCI community with disabilities to foster a sense of belonging, encourage community-building, and create opportunities for mutual aid and self-advocacy. Led by people with disabilities, the DCC aims to raise awareness that destigmatizes disability identity and engenders a campus culture in which disabled people can thrive. The DCC recognizes that disability is part of UCI’s diversity initiative and asserts the importance of disability identity and culture at UCI.

As public health students at the University of California, Irvine, we believe that we have a responsibility to support and take action regarding public policy decisions that impact the health and wellbeing of everyone globally from all communities. We believe that everyone deserves to live, work, study, and play in a healthy environment, to have access to good quality and affordable healthcare, and to live free from discrimination regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability or ability, religious affiliation, immigration status, or gender identity. This student group will engage in political advocacy efforts such as contacting state and national government representatives, starting petitions, letter, call, or email campaigns and attending events such as town halls in order to advocate around key public health issues including:

● Discrimination against specific historically and contemporarily marginalized groups and its impact on health
● Mental health, student wellness, and pedagogical wellness
● Violence prevention, including firearms, injuries, and abuse among vulnerable populations
● Access to reproductive and sexual health care services
● Health and educational equity considerations from the COVID-19 pandemic
● Health consequences (physical and mental) among undocumented immigrants and their families due to discrimination, lack of access to health care, and (threats of) deportation.

The UC Irvine Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) was established in 2010 as the first professional degree of the Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention, and as an essential component of an envisioned School of Population Health at UC Irvine. The mission of the UC Irvine M.P.H. is to create public health practitioners who are trained to work independently and collaboratively to develop and implement effective strategies to reduce the burden of disease and disability in culturally diverse communities in Southern California and around the world. The MPH curriculum educates students in the global dimensions of public health principles and prepares them to lead and work collaboratively on the assessment of health-risk factors and the management of prevention strategies. In 2012, following a rigorous self-study process and a site visit by experts in the field, the M.P.H. program was accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (www.ceph.org).

National Disabled Law Student Association (NDLSA) at UCI Law aims to eliminate the stigma of disability within the legal profession, provide support for law students and prospective law students, and foster an inclusive and accessible environment for law students.

NDLSA at UCI Law asserts that the ideal way to make UCI Law accessible for students is to enact widespread non-exclusionary change that benefits the entire community. However, NDLSA at UCI Law acknowledges that in cases where this is not possible, it is still important to advocate for each student getting their needs met in an individualized manner.
