“What is Biglaw?” Information Session and Student Panel

Are you a 1L who is Biglaw curious? If so, the CDO strongly encourages you to attend this information session and student panel to learn about Biglaw firms and their 1L and 2L summer associate hiring. We will provide some background and key information on Biglaw and Biglaw hiring.

We will then moderate a panel of 2L students who went through the Biglaw hiring process last spring and summer who will work as 2L summer associates with law firms for summer 2026. The panelists will discuss their experience with Biglaw hiring and tips and successful strategies related to Biglaw networking over your 1L year.

We believe this information is key as many Biglaw firms will engage with 1Ls this fall and networking can be a key part of your Biglaw job search. Early hiring by firms is often of students that they meet through student engagement. Applications for 1L and 2L summer associate positions may open as early as winter 2025 (note that 1Ls cannot apply to legal positions earlier than November 10 with certain exceptions) per the UC Irvine Law Recruiting Policies. You should balance your networking efforts with your coursework as 1L grades are considered very important for Biglaw hiring (see the 2L Summer Associate Biglaw Hiring: Factors Worksheet for 1Ls for more information).

Time will be allotted for Q&A at the conclusion of the panel.

**Lunch will not be served so bring your own lunch if needed.
