Dear UC Irvine Community,

It is with pride and excitement that I welcome you to the first-ever issue of the UC Irvine Underground Scholars Program (USP) Newsletter. This milestone reflects how far our community has come and the shared commitment that continues to guide our work each day.

As we begin a new academic year, we look forward to deepening our collective investment in community building, peer mentorship, and support for all system-impacted and formerly incarcerated students at UCI. Together, we are shaping a campus culture rooted in belonging, transformation, and opportunity where every scholar’s experience matters and every voice contributes to our collective strength.

Through this newsletter, we aim to celebrate your achievements, share important updates and resources, and highlight the powerful work being led by our students, staff, and partners on campus and across the state. Whether you are a new member or a returning student, know that your presence enriches our community and strengthens the foundation of Underground Scholars at UC Irvine.

Learning Academic Resource Center (LARC)

The Learning and Academic Resource Center offers drop-in tutoring, workshops, sponsorship opportunities, and even job opportunities. LARC provides extra support for students who may need help with assignments

Need an Electronic Device?

The UCI Science Library allows every UCI student to borrow devices you may need—such as computers, calculators, chargers, and video equipment—for up to 48 hours free of charge. For more information, visit https://www.lib.uci.edu/equipment.

Basic Needs Center

Need help with groceries and diapers?
The Basic Needs Center offers a program that provides student parents with a monthly supply of diapers or pull-ups.
