Dear NSSLHA Members,

Thank you to everyone who attended our New Member Orientation! We had a great time meeting you and are looking forward to an exciting Spring quarter. If you couldn't make it, below is a full breakdown of what we discussed, plus a link to our slides with detailed information on membership, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and upcoming events.

Becoming a Committee chair, which helps pave the way for future positions on the Executive Board. Most importantly, your active participation is crucial for our chapter's success in achieving its goals. We have multiple committee chair positions available which we encourage everyone to consider applying for.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee – Advocate for cultural awareness and equitable practices in CSD.
  • Membership/Social Committee – Organize events, recruit members, and engage with our community.
  • Community Service Committee – Coordinate volunteer and fundraising initiatives.
  • Public & Media Relations Committee – Manage social media and outreach.
  • Professional/Academic Success Committee – Provide academic support and career development resources.
  • Graduate Student Committee – Offer mentorship and professional development for undergrad and grad students.

Membership Dues (Undergrads only)

Undergraduate Members must pay $10 per quarter to maintain active membership status. As an active member, you can attend funded events, workshops, cross-chapter/club meetings, and guest speaker events, hold officer positions, vote in elections, and serve on committees. Pay via:

National NSSLHA – Membership & Opportunities

National Membership ($60/year)

  • Access to all four ASHA journals
  • Eligibility for ASHFoundation scholarships, NSSLHA honors, and leadership positions
  • $250 Conversion discount for ASHA certification (if eligible for CCC within two years... so this doesn't apply to anyone)
  • Updates on exclusive scholarships, networking, and workshops

National Leadership Opportunities
Applications are open until May 4, 2025.

  • Student State Officer (SSO): Serve as a liaison between local and National NSSLHA
  • Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action (IDEA) Workgroup: Develop DEI-related resources THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY WE RECOMMEND PEOPLE CHECK OUT!!!
  • Executive Council: Represent students in CSD and help develop NSSLHA

Scholarships & Awards

  • SPARC Award ($1,000, up to 12 winners) – For seniors headed to a clinical CSD master or cohort post-bacc and thinking of pursuing a PhD later on!
  • Graduate Student Scholarship ($5,000, up to 3 winners) – For undergrad seniors heading to grad school in Fall 2025

National NSSLHA Honors (Applications Due March 31)

  • Excellence Awards (2): For graduate students who contribute significantly to their NSSLHA chapter
  • Rising Leader Awards (2): For undergraduates demonstrating leadership potential
  • Legislative Liaison of the Year Award (1): Recognizes advocacy efforts
  • Speaking Out and Being Heard Award (1): Honors students who raise public awareness about CSD
