Hello language enthusiasts! Welcome to Language and Linguistics Club (or LLC for short)! We are a linguistics club that invites everyone interested in any aspect of language to join. You may see our former name "Syntax PROs" on some of our pages. It is a pun on a silent pronoun in the field of syntax by the name of "PRO", but our name by no means limits us to exploring only syntax. We are interested in everything related to language!

About Us

The mission of Language and Linguistics Club is to expose members of the UC Irvine community to the beauty and science of language and its interactions with culture and history. We seek to create an open space for students to discuss any topics in the field of linguistics, from their social impacts to the underlying syntactic structures. The events associated with our club will emphasize linguistic and cultural diversity as well as an increased awareness of the underlying grammatical structures and features of languages other than English.

Language and Linguistics Club is headquartered at The University of California, Irvine—which is located on the ancestral homelands of the Tongva, Acjachemen, and Kizh nations. We recognize and respect the Tongva, Acjachemen, and Kizh peoples as the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which we meet.
