About Us

Chinese Orchestra at UC Irvine fosters an appreciation for traditional Chinese music through performances, collaborations, and outreach. We provide an open and supportive environment for instrumentalists to develop their musicality, share their knowledge, and showcase their skills. No prior experience with music or traditional Chinese instruments is required, and we offer classes during our weekly rehearsals to teach you everything you need to know, as well as rental instruments.

- We are organized in two groups -
Beginners Group: Learn Chinese instruments for the first time and receive instruction and group lessons free of cost
Advanced Ensemble: An audition-based group where members rehearse and perform pieces at various events on and off campus. Open to both Western and Chinese Instruments. Advanced ensemble members are invited to participate in the Begineers Group as mentors to create a harmonious community.

Membership Benefits

Membership costs $25/year or $15/quarter and required for both groups. Members will be able to attend our weekly rehearsals, rent instruments, and perform in our end-of-the-quarter showcase.

Membership fees are used to pay for new instruments, transportation, food, venues, and other costs that benefit Chinese Orchestra members.

(Instruments are availble to on a quarterly basis for a low rate)
