Leadership Team

Matin Samimiat

President

Born in Iran, where the Islamic Republic jails journalists, stones women, and obsessively funds terrorist organizations to launch rockets at Israel, where free speech was a myth, I learned early that silence isn’t safety; it’s surrender.

I fled that hell in 2016 and became a proud U.S. citizen in 2023. When my previous campus, Golden West College, tried to threaten me with disciplinary action for speaking my mind about illegal immigration, transgender ideology, and Hamas, I took them to federal court, and I won.

Now, as YAF’s founding President at UCI, I’m double-majoring in Criminology and Social Ecology. Those who know me, even slightly, understand that I love engaging in discussions and debates on topics such as immigration, the Middle East, socialism, and Islam.

When I’m not involved in activism, working, or studying, I enjoy archery and target shooting at the range. I also love attending political events and conferences whenever I have the chance.

People often ask me, “How is it that you remain so steadfast in your beliefs and so bold in your speech?” My answer is simple: I don’t want my new home to become the place I escaped from. I will do everything in my power to actively promote and protect the principles that give me freedom in this country. At least here, I don’t have to worry about rotting in a cell or hanging from a crane in a public square.

Feel free to ask me about how my journey into U.S. politics and conservatism began. I have many stories to share.

Megumi LehrBass

Vice President

I am currently a second year Biology major on the pre-med track, aspiring to become a pediatric doctor. I have been involved with YAF since 2021 and became an independent member in 2023.

I support our First Amendment and encourage people to speak up, no matter their political beliefs. We won’t agree on everything, and that’s okay!!!

My goal is simply to have conversations and expand on ideas. I am always open to learning more, as well as sharing the information I’ve spent time researching.

For those who know me, my goal has always been to serve as a voice for the future generation. For nearly a decade, I have been deeply involved in the education system. I worked as a TA and tutor at an elementary school, and I served as an ambassador for my high school, where I participated in multiple board meetings. I attended public in-person school until high school, when I transferred to online education. This transition sparked my interest in educational debates, and I have since conducted extensive research on the topic

Outside of academics and politics, I am extremely extroverted. I’m a huge horror fan, and I absolutely love classic rock music from the 1960s through the 1980s. I look forward to getting to know all of our members and building lasting friendships that extend beyond our years at UCI. More importantly, I am excited to make a meaningful difference together.
